Final Women’s Singles and Doubles Rankings
TEMPE, Ariz. (November 21) –
ASA Miami sophomore Tatiana Simova and freshman Gabriel Ortiz of Seward County Community College finished atop the final 2019 Oracle ITA Junior College National Rankings that were announced Thursday.
The Tyler Junior College duo of Emelie Schwarte and Helena Jansen concluded the fall atop the women’s doubles rankings, while Gustavo Cruz and Tao Castillo of ASA Miami are the top-ranked men’s team.
Simova defeated Tyler Junior College’s Lucie Devier in straight sets to win the ITA Cup singles final and qualify for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. She went 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles at the ITA Cup. The ASA Miami sophomore was named the UTR/ITA National Junior College Player of the Month for her play in October.
Ortiz entered the ITA Cup after receiving one of the last at-large bids. He then went on to defeat the draw’s No. 3, No. 2 and No. 1 seeds to capture the ITA Cup and earn a berth into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. In the first round, the Seward County freshman defeated NCAA Division I Nico Mostardi of Cleveland State.
The Tyler Junior College doubles team of Schwarte and Jansen won the ITA Cup Junior College women’s title, while Cruz and Castillo captured the men’s ITA Cup Junior College and ITA Cup Doubles doubles championship.
